Avoiding Delays and Missed Connections

Anytime-Shuttle

We are lucky in Australia to not have too many weather extremes. It is probably part of the reason Sydney manages to continue with just the one airport. We still have to deal with delays that result from the flight’s previous destination, or problems at the destination we are travelling to. But with a sensible approach this need not be too bad.

Early Departures.

Few people prefer to get up super early, but it avoids traffic and other delays. And if you are travelling that day there is not too much you can fit in before your flight. Using a shuttle bus solves almost every issue here. You can sleep in the shuttle and let the driver make the connection.

Connections and Non-Stop Flights.

Non-stop flights will avoid problems with connections. As long as the plane can land at the destination there is hardly an issue. But these direct flights tend to be more expensive. If you have to stop for a connection, try to find a stopover point not prone to bad weather or other problems.

Book Travel Insurance

This helps in the unforseen circumstance, though it is an expense in itself. Try to find a credit card that includes a travel insurance option.

Keep Track of the Situation.

Transport often has up to date information on the internet. Use this in making decisions. Look at other flights and other airlines to see how widespread any issues are.

Keep Essential Handy

If you are forced to wait a day in the airport it helps considerably to have toothbrushes, cell phones and a change of clothing in your hand luggage.

Rebooking

When airlines make last minute changes the ticket counters become crowded. Making your new flight plans on the phone or internet can often be quicker.

Compensation

If there are serious flight issues some airlines offer compensation in the form of vouchers or reimbursement. Look at the FAQ’s of the website, and politely ask if you feel it is appropriate.
